HOMESTEAD | NEAR VILNIUS

The homestead of three buildings is situated far from the city, in a peaceful and almost unurbanized area, surrounded by nature.

Significant attention was given to choosing the location for the buildings. With the plot being nearly 3 hectares in size, the possibilities for arranging the buildings were extensive. To narrow down the search and to choose the exact location helped existing trees and panoramic views of the surrounding nature, as well as an analysis of sunlight and shadows. The architecture of the homestead provides a daylit and cozy inner courtyard, convenient access, and opens up views to the most beautiful panoramas.

Inspiration was also sought in the traditional architecture of this region — Dzūkija. Its characteristic features were modernly interpreted and subtly integrated into the new architecture. Repetition of details, window shapes and rhythm, elongation of rafters, roof pitch and covering, burnt wood vertical finishing, and traditional window shutters – all of these elements create a pastoral aesthetic that harmonizes with the environment.
